Although we may not be at the winter solstice yet, the weather outside is starting to look frightful. And playing havoc with our skin.
I have written before that as the seasons change, so should our skincare. Hopefully, you’ve already taken notice of this and have upped your skin hydration game as needed. What can get missed in this seasonal exchange is body care, which I wanted to make note of today.
To begin, I encourage dry brushing before bathing. This will help slough off dead skin cells and prevent the scaly appearance that can so easily happen as the temperatures drop and the air becomes drier. When skin is regularly exfoliated, it can easily absorb hydration.
While body cream is how most deal with this, I prefer using a body oil, applying it to my skin while it’s still damp. At the moment, my go to is a dry body oil spray from Kiehl’s. I also enjoy the Clarins Tonic. The scent makes me feel like I’ve just emerged from a treatment in an Austrian health spa.
If I am going the body cream route, I often use one in the scent of the perfume I’m wearing as I find it gives additional staying power to my chosen fragrance.
And if your moisturisation need is deep, but you just haven’t had the time to dry brush and your shins are shedding as if they have dandruff, this glycolic cream will restore smoothness. This tip can be particularly helpful during party season when a morning routine may be shortened in favour of a bit more sleep.
I can’t get enough hand cream in the winter and have them available everywhere: my treatment room, handbag, bathroom, bedside table and desk. Although I have a few that I love: Body Shop, Caudalie, Kate Somerville's Dry Skin Saver, I’m always up to try something new.
This autumn, I’ve been experimenting with Sisley, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast and Beauty Pie's Plantastic. Cicaplast has become my go to for dry feet as it is slow to absorb. I apply it before I begin reading at night with socks so it soaks into my feet rather than my sheets. I’ve had a solid recommendation for Clarins so this is on my list of what to buy next.
Lips are the other area where I’m regularly plagued and am forever willing to try something new. Staples in my bedside table are Tatcha and Jouer. I’ve enjoyed recent dabbling with Kiehl’s, LRP Cicaplast and Rosebud Salve. And always in my handbag I have By Terry’s mini lip balm, plus the coordinating stick in my travel bag.
