Happy New Year! Hope you enjoyed the festive season and are excited about the start of 2019. I can’t believe it’s this time again!
What I also can’t believe is how many masks I had hiding in my bathroom cupboards!!! When I started Merry Maskmas, I knew I had enough masks to make it into a thing, however I had no idea that I would trial and share thoughts on more than 30 masks!
Luckily, this project has left my bathroom shelves more organised and empty. Plus, I’ve re-energised my own mask game. While many of the masks I showed on Instagram and Facebook were samples, my daily posts reminded me of exactly how many full-size options I have. So after all my masking over the past few weeks, I’m continuing to use what I have, taking time for an extra step in my skincare once or twice a week.
While we all have our daily routine, masks can help deliver more skin clearing, exfoliation or hydration, depending on what you need. As you have seen in the posts I've shared, there are many options when choosing the mask that’s right for you.
And since a recap on favourites was requested, here are my highlights (listed alphabetically):
Bobbi Brown Nourish for hydrating and calming
Chantecaille Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask for hydrating and calming
Exuviance Oxygen Facial for brightening (I've got this one in the treatment room)
Herbivore Blue Tansy for exfoliating and calming (this one is only avail in the US, thanks to EU regs on AHAs)
Kiehl's Calendula and Aloe Hydration Masque for hydrating and calming
Kiehl's Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque for cleansing, exfoliating and brightening
May Lindstrom The Honey Mud for cleansing and exfoliating
MV Organic Skincare Signature Mineral Mask for cleansing and calming
NIOD Myrrh Clay for firming
Tatcha Violet-C Radiance for exfoliating and brightening
During Merry Maskmas, I received some questions about whether I was overtreating my skin. Daily masking is definitely not something I would recommend as a part of a regular routine at home. However, I used my professional training and experience to guide me in choosing which mask to do each day. I was careful to alternate between mask types. At the end of Merry Maskmas, my skin was still performing as it should, though it’s happy I’ve returned to weekly masking.
As ever, I enjoyed tying new products and hope you enjoyed seeing what I tested. If you have any questions about what mask you should be using, please let me know.
What’s your favourite mask?
