How’s 2019 going so far for you? Have you made resolutions? Are they still happening? Or have they been abandoned?
I’m not a big resolution maker because I haven’t found them to be highly successful in my life, though I do like the concept of the fresh start to the year. With this in mind, I’ve been inspired by Gretchen Rubin’s Happiness Project and 26 Habits from Emma Gunavardhna to create what I’m calling Monthly Focus.
I’m choosing 12 activities that I would like to bring into my life with more regularity. I’ll be focusing on one theme each month and doing it every day. I’m hoping that the month-long commitment gives me enough time to see how each endeavour benefits me, what changes I experience and whether it is something I want to continue long-term.
It also gives me a solid way of pacing myself through the year. I often find myself looking forward to future events, at the expense of now. As someone who loves making plans, I’m already looking forward to activities I have planned for summer, which means I may not fully appreciate the months in between.
However, I’m hopeful that Monthly Focus will keep me more present while experiencing the positive steps that can be made day to week to month with consistent repetition.
What’s on my list for the year?
Affirmations
Intentions
Green smoothies
Gratitude
Yoga
Tarot
Journal
Eliminate processed food
Skipping rope
Alcohol consumption within unit guidance
Meditation
Lemon water before breakfast
I haven’t assigned months for each activity yet, although I do know January’s focus is yoga. I’m already doing Yoga with Adriene’s new year programme, Dedicate.
I’ve experimented with doing it at various times of day and have discovered end of day, before dinner, is my ideal. Light a candle, roll out my mat, turn on some background music and start the video. It’s a gentle transition, helping me to wind down for the evening.
If this concept is intriguing to you at all, take a look at my Instagram or Facebook where I’ll be giving updates about my Monthly Focus.
What do you think? Could Monthly Focus be something for you? What would be on your list?
