How many masks can I do?

While working my way through autumn adieu, I tackled my bathroom cupboards as well as my closet.  And because I never met a sample I didn’t like, I found a healthy stash of stuff on the shelves.

I keep my sample and travel sizes organised into broad categories like skincare, haircare and make-up.  However, it became apparent that putting everything skincare into one shoebox (ok, maybe there was more than one) made it difficult to peruse and use my options.

Clearly a sub-category sort was in order: cleansers, serums, etc.  Upon completion, I discovered that masks were my largest collection.  Clearly I love a mask!  Whether it’s derived from clay to cleanse, designed to hydrate overnight or applied via cellulose sheet for dewiness, masks offer immediately visible results.  They’re great to use just once or twice a week and offer a bit of me-time if you take a break while the mask does its work.

Knowing it was time to pare down, I set myself a challenge of trying out all the masks to see which were worth keeping.  And as I’ve already got Christmas candles burning in my treatment room and flat, I welcome you to Merry Maskmas!

From now, until I run out of options, I’ll be masking each day and posting a photo on Instagram and Facebook of what I’ve used.  This offers a dual purpose of keeping me on-track and offering you a bit of skinspiration.

We know why masks are important, so let's talk here now about application.  I decant my chosen mask into a small bowl and apply it with a synthetic brush (similar to this), which I feel gives me more control over the application and causes less mess.  That said, as you will see in my photos, painting is neither a hobby nor future profession for me.

I remove the mask using a muslin cloth, rather than a flannel or washcloth, because it's more gentle on my skin.  After I've taken time to care for my skin, I don't want to irritate it with my mask removal.

Bowls, brushes and muslin cloths obviously aren't necessary to mask, it's just how I like to do it!

Will Merry Maskmas inspire you to add a mask into your weekly routine?  I hope so.  I know the end of the year gets crazy, however this may also be the time you need a bit more radiance and a mask may be your answer.

Remember, daily usage is not necessary.  I’m just doing this crazy thing because I need more shelf space!
