It’s nearly a week since it happened, but we can still talk about the royal wedding, right? What a beautiful, touching ceremony held on a spectacularly gorgeous day. And while I could spend many more hours talking about everything that happened on 19 May, my connection to the wedding right now is all about skin. Particularly, how amazing the Duchess of Sussex looked in her decidedly no make-up look.
I’m reliably informed by Hello! magazine that there was a make-up artist involved, which may seem surprising because it looked like she wasn’t wearing any make-up. Particularly evidenced by those glorious freckles showing through.
Known for her minimalist approach, our fresh-faced California gal achieved this look thanks to her skin providing a perfect canvas. What can you do to get your skin as flawless as possible, even if 2 billion people aren’t watching you on the telly? Here are my top recommendations.
Get enough sleep. This is where it all truly begins. Your cells need sleep to regenerate and turnover. They can’t work properly to make you look great if you’re still scrolling Instagram at 1 am.
Drink plenty of water. Hydration is so important to keep skin smooth and clear and to help combat dryness and dehydration. When you don’t consume enough water, skin appears patchy and feels uneven. Which means even a minimal make-up approach will be challenged.
Eat a healthy diet. The food you put in your body shows in your skin. Occasional indulgences are understandable, however the majority of your diet should be whole foods reflecting a wide range of colour, which is a great sign that you are balancing your food groups and taking in all the nutrients you need.
Look after your skin. This means you need to be rigorous about your daily skincare routine. Whether it’s four steps or more, you want to ensure you are using the right products every day to cleanse, tone, moisturise and protect your skin.
Amazing looking skin is created on the inside and the outside. There is no magic pot of cream that will neutralise consistent poor meal choices. And there are not enough green smoothies in the world to offset lack of SPF. It’s a total body partnership to make skin look fabulous and believe me, everyone has it in them. You may just need to tweak a few things so you don’t feel naked without your concealer.
As ever, I’m happy to talk through your routine to figure out what can take you from fine to fantastic and good to glowing.
How bare can you go?
