Spring skincare

After our recent stretch of sun, it does seem like spring has really arrived in London.  Let's hope it's the warm-up for a great summer!

Spring is the perfect time for a review of our skincare routine to ensure it is fit for the new season.  Winter months require more hydration and care to keep skin from drying out, while sunshine and warmer temps let you dial this back.

Whether you’re using a rich cream cleanser, a thick night time moisturiser, facial oil or maybe a combination of all three, spring welcomes lighter skincare thanks to higher mercury readings and more humidity in the air.  So if you haven’t already changed your routine, now is definitely the time to make a move.  This may be as easy as eliminating a step or it maybe using your AM moisturiser in the evening as well.

This is also the time to ensure you have proper sun protection.  It goes without saying that your face, neck and décolleté should always be slathered in sunscreen, however now is the time when an impromptu glass of afternoon rosé can result in rosé skin as well.  My handbag has been updated to include a small tube of SPF to be sure I’m not caught out.  I'm also trialling a translucent powder that includes protection, in case I need to reapply on top of make-up during the day.

If you take a Vitamin D supplement, you can now reduce it or stop it, depending upon what works best for you. Personally, I take Vit D all year long.  At the Spring Equinox, I reduce my dose to 2,000 to 4,000 iu per day and continue this until the Autumn Equinox.  From autumn to spring, I double this dose.

And finally, the start of spring brings the opportunity to do a first quarter checkon how those personal goals are going for the year.  I know I'm making great progress on some, however others are languishing.  I’m carving out some time to contemplate how I can reboot!

What are you doing this spring?
