Sun Protection

Invest in your skin today

If you look almost anywhere these days, you’ll find ways to “solve” many skincare issues.  Whether you want to lighten pigmentation thanks to too much sun, remove the “11s” between your brows that make you look permanently angry or lift what is falling, there seems to be a product or treatment that can “reverse” the ageing process and / or undo damage you may have inflicted on your skin during the folly of youth.

Do you: use retinol?

Whenever I’m asked about skincare, I inevitably suggest products containing Vitamin A.  This dynamo ingredient strengthens skin, stimulates collagen and elastin and locks in moisture.  Retinol is a super-strength form of Vitamin A and while it requires patience during usage, the results truly justify its delicate handling.

Inspector Gadget at your service

On the list of items that excite me, gadgets give me a special thrill.  Whether they are mechanical device or just an ingenious piece of kit, I am a firm believer that gadgets make life easier.  I can spend hours drooling over specialty kitchen items or waxing lyrical about my AirPods.

So when you marry gadgetry and skincare, that’s a real bonanza for me.  Here are a few gadgets that have made it into my homecare routine.

A few of my favourite things

It’s the time of year where lists recapping the best of the past 12 months are everywhere.  And because I love a list, I’ve used this concept to inspire skincare items that I can’t be without.  Well, let’s be generous and call them skincare-related, remembering that I believe good skincare is the foundation on which everything else is built.

Why I shun the sun

As a young, pale and freckled, ginger living in Florida, I was constantly besieged by sunshine.  During a time when the maximum SPF available was about 8 and long before sun guard swim shirts were available, I went to bed each night wishing to wake up with brown hair and skin that tanned like my friend, Carol.

SPF Q&A to prepare you for the summer sun

Although I have lived in the UK for over 14 years, I still think of the last weekend in May as the unofficial start to summer, thanks to years of celebrating Memorial Day in the US.  And after a week of glorious weather in London, summer does seem to have come early here this year.  Which makes it a great time to talk about sunscreen.  Yes, again!

You can fit it all in your liquids bag

With our first spring bank holiday arriving tomorrow, now begins the time for getaways and summer holidays.  Always a welcome relieve after a long winter!

While I love travelling, I don’t love packing and one of my biggest challenges is getting my make-up and skincare to fit in a suitcase, leaving enough room for clothes and whatever else I need.

What's the fuss with Korean skincare?

Magazines and the internet abound with information about skincare innovations courtesy of Korea.  A big focus has been on the 10-step (or more!) routine that many women there follow on a daily basis.

Prolonging your summer glow

With summer holidays over and autumn rolling in, you are probably trying to preserve any colour the sun brought out in your skin.  However you also may have noticed that where you once saw bronze goddess, you skin is now looking a bit dull.  Here are a few things you can do to savour your tan and keep you J-Lo glow.

Pack your bags

With long weekends in May and summer holidays approaching, you may soon find yourself heading out on the open road.  While I love to travel, I really don’t enjoy packing because it forces me to make hard choices if I want to stay within the weight requirements for baggage.  Yes, there has been more than one repack scenario at an airline check-in desk during my life.
