Is this a 5-minute facelift?

You probably have an exercise routine to help keep you muscles strong and toned, however have you thought about toning the muscles in your face?  Defined muscles help ensure gravity isn’t completely successful in making everything on our bodies slide south.  And this is where micro-current might become your face’s new bestie.

Micro-current use was first pioneered to repair damaged tissue and muscles.  When a doctor noticed an external effect of lifted skin while working on a patient, facial work was trialled.

How does it work?  Gentle waves are sent through the skin, tissues and muscles, stimulating adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production.  ATP delivers increased collagen and elastin while energising muscles and improving blood circulation.

And because our facial muscles are attached directly to skin, rather than to bone, micro-current is able to improve facial muscle tone, enhance appearance, reduce puffiness and improve cellular activity.

Nervous about the word current in relation to the face?  Don’t be. Micro-current mimics the body’s own electrical currents.  Plus, it’s so low-voltage that it would take 1,000,000 micro-current machines to power a 40-watt bulb!  The treatment is completely comfortable and there is no down-time.

Long available as a salon treatment, technology now allows for at-home use.  Whichever you choose, results are visible after just one treatment, however to really deliver change to the skin, multiple treatments are needed.

Which to choose: professional or personal?

An aesthetician-administered treatment will improve appearance for up to 2 weeks.  For longer-lasting results, 10 to 15 treatments are needed over a 6-week period. Maintenance is then required every three months.  Treatments last 60 to 90 minutes.

And while I am obviously a fan of professional skincare treatments, I really like the micro-current homecare option, not the least of which because of the time required.  Yes, homecare requires usage 5 days a week for 2 months before dropping to a couple sessions per week.  But each session takes just 5 minutes!  And the improvement is visible immediately after treatment.  Here's a photo of me on InstagramFacebookafter treating just one side of my face.  There's definitely a difference, right?

I’ve been using the NuFace Trinity for a while and am pleased with what I see in the mirror.  To begin, I used it at night for all of November and noticed some subtle improvements. After a prolonged post-Christmas break (um, why???), I’ve now switched my treatment time to the morning so I can maximise the visibility of my short-term gains, while I work at daily use to retain longer-term results and progress to a reduced treatment schedule.

Would you add micro-current to your skincare routine?
