Pare down your summer make-up routine

With yesterday’s solstice and our recent stretch of sun here in London, it seems like summer is really here.  Long may it last!

…Even if I turn into a puddle at the mere thought of getting on the tube.  And consistently feel I need three showers per day.

When the sun shines and temperatures soar, this is the time when I want to apply the bare minimum to my face.  While I keep the same skincare routine (and obviously up the sunscreen), when it comes to make-up, I do change it up.  I’ve written previously about how to keep your make-up from melting in the heat.  Here are some other summer beauty hacks I like to employ.

Swap foundation for a lighter option.  In summer, I love to keep my face coverage to the bare minimum by applying just concealer in places where I need a bit of help.

On days when I feel I need a bit more support, but still don’t want a full coverage face, I reach for a tinted moisturiser or cushion foundation.  With just a bit of product, my skin looks great.

To get down to the bare minimum on your face, it goes without saying that your skin is looking its best.  Don’t quite feel you’re there?  Reconsider your skincare routine, book a facial or get in touch with me for a consultation on how to go from fine to fabulous.

Fake a tan.  Whether it’s bronzer on your face or colour everywhere, there are so many options to make you look like you’ve spent hours on a sun lounger, when in fact you’ve been avoiding noonday sun and diligently applying your SPF.  Believe me, your skin will thank you later for the care you give it now.

It seems every make-up line has a bronzer so you are sure to find one that works for your colouring and bank account.  And whether you choose instant, rinse-off or overnight application, self-tanners abound.  To get the best out of my self-tanner, I love using an exfoliator before applying it with a tanning mitt.

Swipe on a cream blush.  When temperatures rise, I find a cream blush offers extra staying power.  And the bonus of this product is that it can also be used on lips.  Application goes faster and your holiday luggage stays below the weight limit when you double up on usage.

Tint and lift.  Blessed with extremely fair lashes and brows, my need for mascara and eyebrow pencil is constant.  So when I discovered lash and brow tinting, it was an answer to my prayers.  Now, no matter what time of day or night, my lashes frame my eyes and my brows are visible because they are tinted.  This lasts about 3 to 4 weeks and means I can skip waterproof mascara, which I never really liked anyway, and leave my brow pencil at home.

My summer routine is also culled by having my lashes lifted, allowing my lash curler is gather dust from lack of use.  In addition to being blonde, my lashes have no natural lift, so the fact that this treatment makes it seem like they’ve been curled for up to 6 weeks is super exciting to me.

I now offer tinting and lifting in studio, so please do get in touch if you want to give it a try this summer.

And now, here’s to enjoying another beautiful day!
